Come Undone by Madelynne Ellis

Come Undone is a different twist on a rock story. I did enjoy the intimate look at a rock star who doesn’t crave the limelight. What I didn’t like was that Xane and the sex seemed over the top.  I felt that that was most of the story…with a little bit of dialogue thrown in.

Xane is the lead singer of Black Halo a world famous Goth-metal band. After a concert Xane leaves the band because of his relationship with one of the members goes sour. He runs into Dani in the hallway and convinces her to take him away. Xane finds himself really into Dani and gets her to jet of to Monaco City to hide out from all the publicity. There Xane and Dani start to explore each other and their relationship more.

Xane is…I don’t really know. I want to like him, I really do. But I don’t feel that I can. His band mate and girlfriend just broke up with him because she married another band mate…and wait they were in a threesome…so he finds the first girl and falls in love with her. But he is also bi-sexual and I think feels worse about losing Steve than Elspeth. It just doesn’t work for me.

Dani was an interesting choice for Xane and I wasn’t too sure of her at first. She has some serious issues that she tries to work through. She comes from a woman’s religious commune (who beat her) and she falls for a sex addicted rock star? By the end of the book I felt that she blossomed into her own character and was a passable fit for him.

There is quite a lot of drama in Come Undone. While Xane and Dani leave the rock world for a while the drama seems to follow them. Xane and Dani seem to create their own drama as well. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t.  so with that said…I really didn’t enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. The story is set with a cliffhanger that left me questioning the need for it. The book is quite long so I didn’t understand why Xane and Dani’s story couldn’t be wrapped up in this book.

Real by Katy Evans

I wanted to read Real because of the cover. It is just that hot. Once I started reading Real I couldn’t put it down. I found myself sucked into Remington’s story. Real is the story of Remington and Brooke; two people that meet under unique circumstances and forge an unlikely relationship…but can it last.

Remington Tate is a popular fighter in the underground fighting circuit. He is quite the character. Remington is arrogant, sexy and just plain yummy. Once he starts fighting…he is off the charts hot. In addition to this Remington has some really dark demons. He can be moody, quiet and a little sweet.

Brooke Dumas is a sports therapist and receives an exclusive contract to work for Remington. She falls into lust with him pretty quickly. Brooke…I could take her or leave her. She was just an OK character. She had a few flaws that really bothered me. The biggest was when she left him in the hospital. Just didn’t make sense to me.

As a couple they generate some pretty good chemistry. Once Brooke and Remington finally (FINALLY) got together it was pretty awesome. Remington was really sweet at times and would play her song after song so she would understand him more. I thought it was a really unique thing.

Real has one of crazy cliffhanger. I wish I knew this going into the book because I am not a fan of them. I really have no idea which way the author will take the story.  I will definitely read the next one because I want to see how Brooke and Remington’s relationship will turn out.

But like every good plan he finds his life meshed with hers.  As Tracey’s history is revealed so are Nixon’s secrets. Can Tracey and Nixon have their happily ever after?

(original cover..which I think is really hot)

(new cover)

So….I really am on the fence with this Elite. I am literally straddling the line between like and dislike. Which means that I think it was eh. Nothing to horrible but nothing that was really great either.  I believe that the story has a lot of potential but it just didn’t play out very well. I think that the book should either have been a Young Adult Novel or a Regular Adult Novel. I think by choosing “New Adult”, it felt like the author couldn’t decide which way to go with it.  The mob angle was a different story line and I actually like that because it’s not something that is written about often.

Nixon is quite the jerk in the beginning, ok a HOT jerk, but still a jerk.  It took me a little while before I actually liked him. When he wasn’t being a jerk he was actually a nice guy (as nice as you can for the mob). You could tell that he struggled with his feelings for Tracey and always wanted what was best for her.  I just could not see him as the “head” of his family.  (Now in my opinion, if he was the son of the boss and in college while figuring out if he wanted to stay in the family that would have been more believable.)

Tracey Rooks is an interesting mix.  I found her at times to be quite brave (especially with all the bullying) and at other times completely naïve. I did like her with Nixon as I can see why she would be attracted to him. Must admit, I liked Chase! I was really rooting for him. The additions of Nixon’s friends make for well-rounded cast of characters. I hope that future books will feature more of them.

With all this being said, I will still pick up the next book because I want to see how things play out as I think the story has a lot of potential.  The book reminds me of a daytime soap that sucks you in and you have to keep watching because you need to know what’ happens.

I do feel that if this book interests you, you should read it. As you might have a totally different opinion then I do. And I would love to hear about it!
