The Bossman by Renee Rose

The Bossman is a sweet romance by Renee Rose. Sophie Palazzo is a masseur and one day she is surprised when her client is someone from the “family”. The family being the “mob family” she left behind fifteen years ago. Her father was in it and when he passed Sophie and her mother left. She has no interest in renewing her acquaintance with Joey or his family. Joey La Torre goes to see Sophie because of lingering pain in his knee after an operation. Hoping massage can help with the pain; he is pleasantly surprised when Sophie answers the door. He is quite taken with her. When things go wrong for Sophie he uses his connections to help her out of a jam and what he asks for in return is just one date. On their date Joey and Sophie realize that they have some serious chemistry between them. While Joey is all for starting a relationship, Sophie is a lot more reluctant because of her parents’ marriage. Can the two of them have a relationship; especially with outside forces pushing them apart?

This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I am always a fan of m stories so I was interested to see how this one would turn out. It is a light mix of m with a sweet romance between the two main characters.

Sophie is a sweet woman. While she knows she is attracted to Joey she doesn’t want to have a relationship with him because of what he does. As they spend more time together she realizes that she has strong feelings for him but can she overlook his work in order to be with him. Joey is a fine specimen of a man. He is an alpha male when he needs to be but knows how to be sweet and caring as well. It seems that he shows this side mostly to Sophie. He is also honest with her when he can be. While there are times he wants to tell her things he knows that he can’t. He soon comes to realize that the biggest job he has to do is convincing Sophie to take a change on their relationship. While Sophie and Joey are trying to figure out their relationship they have to deal with the “family” and things become even harder when the family comes under attack and Joey is put in a position he never expected to be in. The ending was quite surprising. I wasn’t expecting it but I think it was a good choice. I hope to read more books of this author’s in the future.

From The Author:

Sophie Palazzo steered clear of the mafia after her father’s involvement ended with his murder. Fifteen years later, Joey La Torre, the Don’s brother himself, shows up unannounced at her massage studio and wheedles his way into a date. She has no interest in aggressive, macho men like Joey, or so she tries to tell herself, but her body just doesn’t get the message. When Joey takes her in hand with a firm bare-bottomed spanking, she ought to be furious, instead, she’s aroused. As she explores her physical desires to be dominated, she tries to keep Joey at arm’s length emotionally.

Joey knows he wants Sophie for keeps from the moment he walks into her life. She is hot, classy and full of fire, even though submission turns her on. But his involvement in the mafia is a hard limit for her, bringing to conflict his own dedication to the Family, the code of silence and his relationship with his older brother. Can he reconcile his duty to the organization and his growing need for Sophie to remain in his life permanently?

Hell for Leather by Julie Ann Walker

Hell for Leather is the newest edition to the Black Knights series. It delivers a fast paced and engaging story that kept me reading from start to finish.

TBorges_TheBookClub_rating (4)
Delilah Fairchild needs help finding her Uncle who has recently gone missing. She knows the only people that can help her are the men (and women) behind Black Knights Inc. She has gotten to know them over the years as they are patrons of her bar and now that she knows what BKI really is, she knows that if anyone can help her it’s them. BKI sends Brian “Mac” McMillan into help. As Delilah and Mac search for her Uncle trouble finds them.
Hell for Leather brought together to people that I was waiting for but I just didn’t see the sparks that I thought I was going to (maybe I expected too much). In all the previous stories the attraction between Delilah and Mac was always there simmering at the surface. And now they have finally gotten their story but it they just didn’t do it for me.
I have always liked Delilah’s character in previous stories. She is a brassy, bold woman that goes after what she wants and she wants Mac. Now that they are spending a significant amount of time together she finally goes after him full throttle. While Mac is interested in her he keeps pushing her away because he doesn’t want to be hurt by a woman.

Cry me a river Mac! Mac just didn’t do it for me in this story. While he is an ex-FBI agent and a member of BKI he came across luke-warm to me in this story. There was just something missing with his character. I think it was the reason why he pushed Delilah away. When the reason for this was revealed, I couldn’t believe it. I really wanted to smack him for being a stupid male. Come on, you’re an Ex-FBI agent and member of a secret organization and you are afraid of a relationship. Grow a pair Mac! But like all good stories Mac comes to his senses (towards the end) and realizes that loosing Delilah would be the stupidest thing he has ever done.
Hell for Leather has its trademark humor and wit that the Black Knights are known for (love ozzie). Some of the members from previous books are the in this tory and its great catching up with them. The story is well written and fast paced. There was a lot of intrigue in regards to Delilah’s uncle and I really enjoyed it.

Hard Time by Cara McKenna

TBorges_TheBookClub_rating (3)

Hard Time is an interesting story that I was pleasantly surprised with. Annie Goodhouse is a librarian and part of her role is to conduct outreach at the local county jail. She is very nervous at first and is unsure how things will go. But she struggles through her fear and comes to enjoy the time there as she sees the changes in these men. Through her daily interactions she meets Eric Collier. While attracted to him she knows nothing can come of it. Eric is captivated by the new librarian. He soon starts to send her letters and they begin a secret romance. Eric’s situation changes and he is now facing parole.

Overall I thought it was a good book. Hard Time is a unique romance story as it has with one of the main characters being in jail for most of the story. When Eric is released he tells Annie that he will leave her alone because this was a surprise to both of them. Annie is undecided on how she feels about Eric. On one hand she is attracted to him and would like to have a relationship. But she has been hurt in the past so she is fearful of being with someone that has been convicted for a violent crime.  Eric and Annie happen to run into each other in the small town several times and because of this they realize that their attraction cannot be ignored. They soon start to explore their relationship but what will happen when Eric’s past threatens their future! Hard Time is a story about second changes and finding love in the least expected places.

From The Author:

Annie Goodhouse doesn’t need to be told to stay away from bad boys—an abusive ex taught her that lesson well. So when she steps into her new role as the outreach librarian for Cousins Correctional Facility, the last thing she’s worried about is misplacing of her good sense. Except after one look into the dark eyes of inmate 2267, all the logic in the world can’t seem to save her.Unlike some men in Cousins, Eric Collier won’t tell you he was wrongly convicted. He did his crime, and though it wasn’t pretty, he’d do it again if that’s what it took to keep his family safe. Loyalty and brute force are what he understands. That, and the way Annie sucks the air from his lungs every time she enters a room.He courts her in letters, their romance a reckless secret, an exchange of promises neither expects to keep—until suddenly Eric is facing parole, far sooner than he’d dare hope. On the outside waits a woman who fears their attraction as much as she thrives on it, and a past hell-bent on ruining his plans to become the man she deserves. An impossible choice—loyalty to the family he’d fight to the death for, or the trust of the woman he can’t imagine living without.

Fighting Love by Abby Niles

Fighting Love is the story of Tommy “Lightning” Sparks who was on top of the world and now has to pick up the pieces when his world imploded.

Tommy has lost everything…and I mean everything. Through a series of unfortunate events he comes to stay with his best friend Julie Rogers until he can get back on his feet. Though he’s been friends with Julie for years, he hasn’t spent so much time with her in one location for quite a while. He soon starts to see her in a new light…as an attractive women. Confused by his thoughts he tries to ignore his feelings but once Julie starts going out on a few dates with a fellow fighter Tommy can’t ignore his feelings anymore. He realizes that Julia is worth getting to know on a whole new level.

I enjoyed Fighting Love and really liked Julie. I must admit that part of me wanted her to forget about Tommy and go for a relationship with Brody I just felt that she wasted to many years on Tommy and deserved to be with someone that really liked her. Tommy I can take him or leave him. He is an all-around nice guy, attractive BUT a total player who has missed out on being with Julie because he was blinded by the junk in front of him. Several times he pushed her away because he couldn’t make up his mind and it drove me a little nuts. When they finally did get together it was like FINALLY! Tommy does really care for her and it was great to see them together at the end.

“You’re my best friend, my past, my present, and my future. I love you, Tommy ‘Lightning’ Sparks.”

The Invitation (Marriage Diaries Vol 5) by Erika Wilde

The Invitation by Erika Wilde gives us another glimpse into the lives of Dean and Jillian. I have come to really enjoy each book in this series and have been patiently (not really) waiting for The Invitation which is the prelude to the Players Club.

As Dean and Jillian’s twentyith wedding anniversary approaches, Dean believes he has found the perfect present for Jillian. He is goes to his best friend and partner Mac and ask for an Invitation to the players club. A local private club that Mac has been a member of for several years (as well as some other members of his team). The night of their wedding anniversary Dean gives Jillian the invitation. He leaves the decision to accept or decline up to her. With Jillian’s new found interest in spicing thins up she accepts. Dean and Jillian are off to the Player’s Club!

“It’s our twentieth anniversary, baby. I’m not done with you yet, especially after that nice comment of yours. Before the night is through, I want you to see fucking fireworks.”

The Invitation is a truly fabulous story. While the title centers around their invite to the club the story contains so much more that the players club. There are snippets of Dean and Jillian’s early dating and marriage. What I found to be the most interesting was the continual blossoming of Jillian. Now that her children are grown she is feeling the “empty nest” and soon as the opportunity to work outside the home. Dean being Dean does not want Jillian to work.  How will Jillian’s job affect Dean and their marriage.

Dean is the ultimate alpha male and this story shows it more than the others. Their time at the Player’s Club is so HOT! He pushes Jillian to experience things she might not have done if they weren’t at the club. Though he is in control at work and at the club he is starting to feel a little out of it when Jillian tells him that she was offered a job. Because of his past he is adamant that she doesn’t work. Later on Dean realizes that he is being completely harsh in his refusal to allow Jillian to work but he has always prided himself on taking care of his family. Dean has to confront some of his demons in and was really great to see that such an alpha male can be vulnerable. It shows that everyone has insecurities he just better at hiding it than others.

“Do you want me?” “I want my wife.”

Again I absolutely loved this story. I could read a new story of Dean and Jillian all the time. They are like a fine wine they get better with age!

“So you think I can be mollified with hot sex?” “You’re a man, aren’t you?”

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story (well more like one chapter of a story) but I was pleasantly surprised. I was immediately intrigued by Cheyenne and Luke. Cheyenne being the daughter of a wealthy rancher is hoping for a romantic weekend with her sort-of boyfriend Colin. She gets her romantic weekend just not with the person she thought! She gets hot and heavy with ranch hand Luke. Luke is new on the ranch and has been attracted to Cheyenne for quite a while. He believes he is not good enough for her so he leaves her alone. But being stuck at a cabin alone with Cheyenne was not part of his plans. After their passionate night Luke pushes her away. But what happens next is anyone guess…as the next installment isn’t available yet!

For a short read it was pretty good. I am really interested to see how Luke and Cheyenne’s story turns out.

ARC Review of Reapers Legacy by Joanna Wylde

Reaper’s Legacy pulls out all the stops and delivers a book that is a wild ride from start to finish.

Sophie and Ruger have been dancing around their intense attraction to each other for eight long years. Things come to head for them when Noah, Sophie’s son is in trouble and Ruger rides into help him.

Ruger (sigh), he is your typical Reaper…tall, tattooed, pierced with those smoldering good looks and a real indifference to women. He likes the way his life is…unencumbered by any female. Sophie is the only women that has remained constant in his life and that is because of Noah, his nephew. He has always tried to keep his distance from Sophie but when Noah needs his help; he does what needs to be done to keep the boy safe, even if that means moving him and Sophie into his house. Ruger soon realizes that in having Sophie so close it is much harder to ignore the attraction to her than when she was hundreds of miles away. He finally decides to claim her as his property. He intends to show her that the Reapers and him are what she needs.

Sophie has been attracted to Ruger for quite a long time. Their lives have intertwined since the day Noah was born and she has had to rely on Ruger to help her several times over the years. She is a very independent woman who doesn’t want anyone’s help. But Sophie finally realizes that she is in over her head and accepts Rugers help. While she agrees to his help she wants nothing to do with him or the Reapers MC. She refuses to be another conquest for him. Sophie begins to get drawn into to the Reapers as she develops friendships with the other old ladies and Ruggers insistence that she not be with anyone else. Soon Sophie has to make a choice – is her love for Ruger strong enough to survive with the Reapers. Because him and the Reapers are a package deal.

“….You’re in my dreams every night. I wake up in the morning and all I think about is you in my house, you and Noah finally mine. My family. It’s even better than ridin’ my bike. I’m crazy for you, Soph.”

One of the fieriest books I’ve read! When I was first introduced to the Reapers MC I couldn’t imagine things would get any crazier or I would love them even more. Well I was wrong. Reapers Legacy goes deeper into the dynamics of the MC club while holding nothing back.  All the characters from the first story (Horse/Marie) are back in Reapers Legacy. The story also provides several OMG moments that I couldn’t believe happened. The story is well written and a real delight to read. I highly recommend this story. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Reaper’s Legacy proves that to love someone…you have to take the good and bad. And that some are truly worth fighting for.

From the author:

Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart—and her virginity—to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn’t have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach’s step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he’s never forgotten.

She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious—her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach’s a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah’s only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands—with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club—to give them a better life.

Living with outlaw bikers wasn’t Sophie’s plan for her son, but Ruger isn’t giving her a choice. He’ll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she’ll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way…
